Overview
Flights are the highest-volume product on the platform and the least forgiving. Fares expire, suppliers disagree, and a booking can be held, ticketed, split or refunded.
I am the main contributor to the platform's flight API, with 93 of its 156 commits. I also extracted the TBO flight product out of a Next.js monolith into a standalone Express service.
Engineering notes
An extraction nobody had to notice
The standalone service mounts the same paths as the monolith and verifies the same session token, so callers moved over by changing a base URL.
Fare holds with a clock
A search opens a session with a countdown. When it expires the fare is revalidated automatically, and booking and ticketing refuse to run without a live session.
Fixing live bookings
I wrote the scripts that repaired real records, such as converting bookings to on-hold and resolving wallet balances, with a dry run before every write.
