Overview
Tour inventory used to live in each supplier's own spreadsheet or web portal. Agents quoted from stale exports, and a booking was an email typed by hand with no record that it was sent. The marketplace replaces that with one catalogue, refreshed on a schedule, that agencies book against directly.
I wrote most of both halves: about 145 of 161 commits on the API and 93 of 109 on the React app. It is in production use, and I also wrote the business requirements document that serves as its baseline for sign-off.
Engineering notes
Edits that survive the sync
Every sync rewrites the catalogue wholesale, so anything an administrator typed onto a package would be lost. Selling price, tour code and publish state are stored separately and merged at read time.
Save first, email second
A booking is stored before the supplier email is sent. If delivery fails, the request still exists, carries a reference, and can be followed up.
A guest in a shared database
The platform runs inside the company's production database alongside other products. Everything it creates is namespaced, and the shared users collection is treated as read-only.
